PHR Dedication’s Willowfest carnival ended with the side taking out third placing in the B Grade competition, the team’s best result to date. Although the team did not celebrate a first place finish at the post carnival dinner, there were some notable individual achievements to celebrate.
Bowler of the Carnival Brendan McCarthy
After bowling 26 Overs and taking 11 wickets at an extremely tidy average of 14.64 Brendan McCarthy was awarded the prestigious ‘Bowler of the Carnival’ award. Meaning his performance with the ball for Dedication was the best performance from any bowler in the Carnival. He joined Dedication players Chris Shaw (who also previously won bowler of the carnival), Chris Hope and Joel McMahon in being awarded a place on the Lencia XI team (the carnival’s all star team). Not bad for a player who bowling was described as ‘ok spinners’ by an envious Joel McMahon pre-tournament.
Sovereigns MDP
In one of the tightest MDP counts in recent memory, Phil Barker pipped Brendan McCarthy to win the award for the second consecutive year. Scoring 101 runs at an average of 20.20 Barker was clearly the most dominant batsman for the tournament. Barker was presented with the amazing trophy supplied by the Principality of Hutt River –and we thank the Principality for their continued support.
Horses Arse
The surprise of the evening was PHR Dedication’s first ever tied winners of the Horses Arse award (most errors in the tournament). Early favourite Hayden Falconer secured his first horses arse award after a consistently error ridden display in the field. Phil Barker surprisingly (after winning the MDP) was also a joint winner of the award – with two golden ducks and several poor efforts in the field.
PHR Dedication selectors hope all players and supporters enjoy the off season and we will see you again in 2013.
