In an exhilarating vote count held at the Mildura Settlers Club tonight, Joel McMahon took out the M.D.P. (Most Dedicated Player) award with a total of 83 votes. McMahon made 170 runs for the tournament at an average of 34, as well as taking 7 wickets at 27.71. At the Willowfest presentation dinner, when asked if this was his proudest cricketing moment, McMahon described it as "up there." Also at the presentation dinner, McMahon was named in the "Lencia XI," made up of the best performing players across all grades at the carnival. McMahon is the first Dedication player to make the team, and congratulations from the Dedication board of directors go to him.

Kalaan Schroeder has officially taken out the Horse's Arse award for Willowfest 2006, finishing on 20 points, 5 points clear of Kyle Moore on 15. Despite scoring zero points on day 4, Schroeder was far enough in front after day 3 to still claim the award. Along with making 2 ducks and getting bowled 3 times, Schroeder's 2 dropped catches in extremely difficult conditions after about 15 overs of steady rainfall at Irymple gave him the award. The award was presented by Willowfest president Anthony Telfer at the presentation evening at the Settlers Club.
Dedication will be driven to the ground for the final day of Willowfest in the Davison Ford limousine. The limousine ride is awarded to the team scoring the highest amount of runs on the previous day, and on day 3 that honour went to Kersbrook Cougars for their 321 against Dedication. Kersbrook, however, had already won the limousine ride the day before, and decided to give the honour to Dedication.
The Willowfest Whack took place on day 3 of the Willowfest Carnival, with Tyler Hankinson representing Dedication in the quest to find the biggest hitter at Willowfest. Geoff Pascoe caught for Hankinson, catching all 3 of Hankinson's hits to add 10m to the distance. Hankinson managed to hit 68.20m, with the 10m bonus taking his distance to 78.20m. Unfortunately, Hankinson just missed the top 5 for the second round, finishing 6th overall.
Dedication broke their losing spree today with their first win ever in the Willowfest competition with a 169 to 134 win over Raywood Foxes. A brilliant performance from Joel McMahon, making 44 and taking 4/45 got Dedication over the line. For a full report, see results.
Dedication players Kyle Moore and Chris Hope have made a last ditch effort to impress selectors and secure the No. 10 spot in the batting order for the first game. Hope organised to have a net session with Moore and the selection committee at Chaffey Secondary College late on boxing day in an attempt to quash rumours that Moore may have overtaken him in the batting order. According to reports, however, both batsmen put in solid performances in the nets, and the last minute net session has done nothing to subdue the speculation around the final batting lineup for game 1.
Dedication captain Geoff Pascoe is hoping to start Willowfest 2006 on a high note by taking a hat trick. Pascoe took 2 wickets with the last 2 balls of Willowfest 2005, and is hoping to take a wicket with his first ball of the 2006 tournament to complete the hat trick.
Dedication fans received a huge shock today when news broke of an injury to star batsman Kyle Moore's finger. Whilst partaking in a social poker game at Tyler Hankinsons house, Moore returned to the table with his finger in ice, after slamming it in the toilet door. Many of Moore's fans are already pointing the finger at Hankinson, whose position in the batting order may have been under threat after Moore's powerful display of hitting at training. Moore will undertake a fitness test on boxing day to determine if he is ready to play.
Dedication's final training session for 2006 was held at Chaffey Park on the 22nd of December. Many players are looking in great touch, and selectors were impressed by the improvement shown by many inexperienced team members. In particular, Kalaan Schroeder's bowling and batting have both improved considerably, with selectors now considering him to bat in the top order and perhaps open the bowling. Kyle Moore also pushed his case for a promotion from the No. 11 position with a powerful display of hitting. Tyler Hankinson's bowling at the training session also reaffirmed that he should definitely be wicket keeping. Speculation among fans about the final lineup is rife, but selectors have refused to announce the batting or bowling lineup until the morning of the first game.
With the unfortunate withdrawal of Ashley Spencer from the Dedication team, selectors have announced right handed batsman Jarryd Mills as his replacement. Whilst Mills' batting at Willowfest 2005 was nothing spectacular, fans are speculating that his 4 wicket haul in Dedication's tie last year may have impacted on the selectors' decision.
