Game 1: Hutt River Dedication vs Johnnie Walker XI
Hutt River Dedication 88 def by Johnny Walker XI 6/89
Dedication started Willowfest 2011 with the traditional day one collapse. The opening partnership put on four runs, during which time 3 catches were dropped. Finally, the Johnnie Walker XI managed to hold on to one, and Jarryd Mills was gone for 3. Phil Barker came in with something to prove, and in just 11 balls he passed his previous average of 2. Barker played a workmanlike innings while wickets fell around him, until a dodgy umpiring decision by Jarryd Mills at square leg crushed his dream.
The Hutt River tail wagged a little, putting on 38 for the last 5 wickets, but it wasn't enough to get to a competitive total, all out for 88.
Dedication almost got the dream start to the second innings, with an edge to first slip off Joel McMahon. Unfortunately, Jake Sluiter put the chance down. Just the next over, Jarryd Mills put his life in jeopardy, further annoying Phil Barker by failing to catch a skyed ball off Barker's bowling. After this shaky early start, however, the Dedication fielding picked up a notch. Hutt River bowled well, with Chris Hope taking two wickets, and debutante Todd McCarthy taking one in his first over, but it wasn't enough to keep the Johnny Walker XI below the target. Kyle Moore conceded the winning run with a wide from his only delivery, giving him an infinite economy rate.
