Perhaps the best way to sum up Hankinson's career with Dedication is to note that he somehow managed to win both the MDP and the Horse's Arse Award in the same year. Whilst this would at first seem to defy logic, anybody who has seen Hankinson play can immediately see how it happened. Despite doing some of the stupidest things ever seen on a cricket field (he has twice declined to play a full toss on middle stump), Hankinson somehow manages to make runs.
Hankinson will forever be remembered in Dedication folklore for his magnificent innings to bring Dedication home against the Bendigo Spartans at Willowfest 2008. Batting with Geoff Pascoe, who was scoring about as fast a Jarryd Mills in his sleep, Hankinson kept the score board ticking over, along with keeping the Spartins fighting each other, to guide Dedication to an unlikely victory.
