Phil Barker's history with Dedication has not always been a happy one. Vice-Captain of the inaugural team in 2005, Barker played reasonably well, but did not show enough dedication to be called back to the squad in 2006.
Many Dedication fans blame Barker for the shocking loss to the Halls Enforcers in 2006, after he was the first player to lose his wicket to Chris Hope. This began a collapse that ultimately ended in Dedication's defeat.
Barker is not universally liked in the Dedication fraternity, and has in the past threatened to destroy team harmony thanks to a bitter feud with fellow player Jake Sluiter. Barker did, however, manage to win over some fans in 2008, with his score of 46 setting up Dedication's famous victory against the much despised Bendigo Spartans.
