Dedications Willowfest preparations are in disarray tonight after revelations of an acrimonious standoff between two squad members. Details are sketchy, but an anonymous source has reported that Dedication players Bill Barber and Jake Sluiter are engaged in a bitter feud and are refusing to speak to each other. The falling-out has thrown Dedication management into a state of chaos, with officials desperately trying to patch up the dispute before Willowfest so as to avoid a damaging drop in team morale before a tournament that many are predicting will be Dedication's best so far.
Months of rampant speculation ended today with Dedication founding member Chris Hope formally announcing his resignation from the club. The news was met with shock and dismay by administrators and fans alike. Hope's contribution of 25 runs over his 10 games with Dedication was invaluable to the team's successes, and captain Geoff Pascoe is believed to be struggling to work out how to fill the hole left in the batting order. At a press conference held today, Pascoe put on a brave face, claiming that Hope left the club on friendly terms, but he was later overheard describing Hope to teammates as a "f**kin c*nt." Returning player Bill Barber made no such attempt to be amicable in public, telling reporters that "if that little wanker plans on playing against Dedication, he had better get himself a good helmet." With a high likelihood that Hope will in fact be playing against Dedication, Willowfest 2007 is shaping up to be a dirty tournament for all concerned.
The Dedication squad is getting closer to its final lineup with the announcement today that Kalaan Schroeder has been traded to a Bendigo based side for this years tournament. Whilst details are sketchy, it is rumoured that Dedication received a seven-figure sum for the star all-rounder. Bitterness is already becoming apparent amongst the rest of the Dedication squad, with 2006 MDP winner Joel McMahon vowing to "practice his bouncers" in preparation for playing against Schroeder. With 12 players left in the squad, Schroeder's friend and rumoured lover Chris Hope is the favourite to be the last to be cut.
